Ingredients For Christmas Chocolate Cookies Recipe
Prep time: One hour.
Chill the dough: One hour
Baking time: 10 minutes
After getting two types of chocolate chips of your choice, you will only require the basic baking ingredients:
– 100-150 grams of (2 small packets) Chocolate chips: I used dark chocolate, but if you prefer something light and sweet (minus bitter), go with milk chocolate chips. The quantity depends on you, but go no more than 200gm of chocolate chips. Also, don’t forget to leave a cup of chocolate chips behind for the final garnish before baking.
– 100 grams of chocolate chunks: Pick a chocolate bar of your choice (It could be 50% dark or milk chocolate), and chop it into chunks using a knife.
– 185 grams of All-Purpose flour: For any good baking recipe, all-purpose flour will never go wrong.
– 115 grams of Unsalted butter: Our gourmet ingredient for the recipe is unsalted butter sticks.
– 150 grams of brown sugar: This recipe uses more brown sugar than white sugar, but you can also have equal parts of brown and white sugar (½ cup each).
– 100 grams of white sugar
– One egg and one egg yolk
– ½ teaspoon of baking soda
– ½ teaspoon of baking powder
– ½ teaspoon salt
– 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
How To Make The Best Christmas Chocolate Cookies?
Collect all your ingredients and measure them accurately on a scale. Don’t leave it at “second guesses/random cups” if you are baking for the first time.
Also, chop the chocolate bar into 1/2 inch chunks.
Recipe for the best brown butter chocolate chip cookies:
1. Brown the butter (How to brown butter for chocolate chip cookies): Take a pan and put it on low flame. Add butter sticks and stir them constantly to avoid burning. It will take roughly 10-15 minutes for the butter to brown. The fat will bubble and foam before browning, don’t let it frighten you. This step will leave your kitchen smelling like pure heaven— The aroma is nutty with soft caramel notes.
2. In a separate bowl, mix the dry ingredients: All-purpose flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
3. Let the butter cool down to room temperature: DON’T use hot brown butter, it will disturb the temperature of your recipe. Use all ingredients at room temperature. The butter will take 10 minutes to cool down properly. Transfer the browned butter to another bowl to speed up the process.
4. Whisk brown and white sugar into cooled browned butter: Take a big bowl for your dough. Transfer brown butter, brown sugar, and white sugar; whisk together until it’s all mixed together. Use an electric mixer to fasten the process, but a manual whisker works just fine, too.
5. Add vanilla extract, one egg, and one egg yolk to the mixer and beat together until soft and drippy.
6. Add dry ingredients (step 2) to the combination and mix well. Your brown butter cookie dough should have structure instead of being sticky.
7. Add chopped chocolate chunks and choco chips to the dough and mix them until well-buried inside. (If you don’t like chocolate chips, you can simply skip them and substitute them with chocolate chunks or use red, green and white sprinkles to form the perfect Christmas cookies mix.
8. Use a cookie scooper and make 1-inch balls using the dough before chilling. Transfer the balls into a flat ball/plate. Making cookie balls before chilling simplifies your baking process. A chilled dough is difficult to handle once hardened. However, with cookie balls, you only need to transfer them to the baking tray.
9. Wrap the bowl with a cling film and let it chill for 1-2 hours. You can also leave them in for 12-24 hours.
10. Before baking, let the cookie balls cool down to room temperature. Garnish them with more choco chips.
11. Preheat the oven to 350℉ and always use a thermometer to be sure of the temperature. An unintentional high temperature will burn your cookie base.
Pro tip: Always check your oven’s temperature to avoid burning your efforts.
12. Line your baking tray with parchment paper for a crispy cookie base.
13. It’s baking time! Bake your cookies for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Your cookies will naturally flatten as the timer ticks by.
14. Pull the tray out and let the cookies cool for a few minutes. Transfer them to a different tray to fasten the cooling process.
15. Once cool, your cookies are ready to serve and enjoy!
Tips To Bake The Most Delicious Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Don’t forget to chill the dough. Chilling the dough helps the cookies retain structure and form.
- Heat your butter on low flame: Butter can easily get burned if you don’t stir it continuously. Always heat it on low flame. When on medium/high flame, stir it constantly.
- Let your browned butter cool down: Don’t use hot butter, it will imbalance your cookie dough’s temperature. Bring it to room temperature. In fact, use all ingredients at room temperature.
